Board appointment

A UK Financial services institution with recent leadership change, significant regulatory pressure and complex stakeholder challenges was seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees with exceptional EIQ to complement technical investment skills and experience.

Approach

Initial thinking was guided through briefing interviews with the Chair of the main Board, outgoing Chair of Trustees, the lead Search partner and HRD, along with pre-existing organisational insight. Using CV’s and psychometric data, candidates were interviewed on aspects of their experience and approach that tested EIQ and also completed a broad psychometric tool which identified leadership styles and preferences.

Insights and Impact

The shortlist comprised four candidates all with very strong financial and technical credentials, two of which were differentiated by facility for EIQ. This was evidenced through approach to complex stakeholder management, leading without hierarchical leverage and, to some extent, a mix of testing personal and professional challenges.

Through a thorough wash up process, one candidate was selected, with strong professional skills, EIQ, humility and flexibility. The data was used to give feedback and support the on-boarding of the successful candidate. Feedback was also offered to all remaining candidates.
